SALDANHA APPROACH

SALDHANA BAY YACHT CLUB l LANGEBAAN YACHT CLUB

Harbour Authority

Saldanha Bay is under the control of Portnet.

Approach & Radio Procedure

The Saldanha Bay Yacht Club and the Langebaan Yacht Club require the owner/skipper of visiting yachts to phone or email the Club, regarding the availability of moorings prior to arrival.

(Pic enlargement: 25 K)

Permission must be obtained from Port Control before entering and departing the harbour on Channel 16 - working frequency channels 10 and 12. When proceeding from Saldanha to Langebaan and vice-versa, permission must also be obtained from Port Control before crossing the main shipping channel running form the iron-ore jetty to the open sea.

Yachts are requested not to moor alongside the floating jetty except to take on supplies and water and then only for short periods. Good holding ground and sheltered anchorage is available in Smitswinkelbay.

Clearance Formalities

The Port Captain requires arrival and departure forms to be completed for yachts sailing offshore. The forms are available at the yacht club and can be left at the club for collection by the Port Captain's office. On arrival, foreign yachts must inform the Port Control by radio on VHF Channel 12, that Customs Clearance is required. The Port Captain will then advise the Customs Officer who will arrange customs, immigration and passport control at the yacht club.
