NIGHT
APPROACH FROM THE EAST.
Steer between Riy Bank and Brenton Rock for the Safewater
mark then proceed as above.
DAYTIME
APPROACHES.
Avoid dangers as above then steer direct for prominent Harbour
control tower at seaward end of North wall.
Anchorages
Strong
south westerly winds are frequent. If unable to enter Harbour
under these conditions, good sheltered holding ground in soundings
of 15 metres will be found between the approach channel and
Roman Rock. There is no shelter outside the Harbour during
Easterly gales.
Radio Procedure
Dual watch VHF channels 16 and 12 during the approach for
advance warning of shipping movements. Call up Port Elizabeth
Port Control on channel 16 when 15 minutes sailing time from
the Harbour. Port Control will direct you to the Yacht basin.
Be prepared to wait if there are shipping movements, best
heave to just East of the breakwater.
