GORDON'S BAY APPROACH

GORDON'S BAY YACHT CLUB

Harbour Authority

The Harbour is controlled by the Department of Sea Fisheries. The Marinas are controlled by Gordon's Bay Yacht Club.

Approach & Radio Procedure

Visiting yachts are requested to contact GBYC to ensure a mooring or marina before departing for Gordon's Bay with the following information: number of crew, Skipper's name, destination and ETA and size of yacht.

If arriving by night visiting yachts may moor overnight at the jetty.

It is unadvisable to enter at low tide if your yacht has a draught of 1.8m or more but one can anchor and wait for half of full tide on the Southern side of the harbour.

Port Facilities & Regulations

Diesel, electricity and water are all available in the harbour area and gas can be obtained approximately 3 kilometres away. Food is available in the town of Gordon's Bay. There are no towing arrangements available. The speed limit in the harbour is 4 knots. No yachts other than yachts going to moorings or marinas are allowed to use the fairways between the lines of moored yachts.

Clearance Formalities

Foreign yachts or yachts wishing to depart overseas from Gordon's Bay must report to the Harbour Master and obtain a clearance certificate. Final clearance must then be arranged through Cape Town. A foreign vessel arriving in Gordon's Bay must also report to the Harbourmaster first and then clear through Cape Town within 24 hours.
