Harbour Authority

Veldrif Yacht Club is not under the control of any harbour authority, but the use of the waters of the Berg River are controlled by Nature Conservation.

General

The Veldrif Yacht Club is situated on the North bank of the Berg River in Waterkant Street, Velddrif. The club sails in nearly 20 kilometres of tidal navigable river. The sailing waters are suitable for all types of sailing dinghies and the club has a mixed collection of yachts that sail on a handicap system. The sailing season is usually from October to the closing cruise at Easter. Racing usually takes place one weekend a month and over holiday periods.

Club Facilities

These consist of a clubhouse, with kitchen, bar and toilet facilities. There is an outside shower and braai facilities. The club has a slipway and beach for launching dinghies, as well as a holding jetty. A boat park for the storage of boats is also available. In the general vicinity of Velddrif/Laaiplek/Port Owen there are various shops, garages, hotels, holiday accommodation, camping sites and restaurants. There are several moorings available and the rate for visiting yachts is R35,00 per day regardless of size. Foreign craft are offered one week of free mooring.
